Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has reckoned that the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) could bring prosperity to the region including neighbouring Afghanistan.

"The CPEC is set to bring prosperity to the whole region. It will be beneficial for Afghanistan," he stated after addressing a conference along with Afghanistan’s High Council for National Reconciliation, Abdullah Abdullah in Islamabad.

"The CPEC will not only benefit Pakistan. It is win-win for the whole region," he asserted.

The Foreign Minister remarked that Pakistan would establish markets at Pakistan-Afghan borders to promote business activities in the area.

Earlier, the Chinese ambassador to Afghanistan, Wang Yu, said that the CPEC was expected to be a game changer in South Asia as a part of China's ambitious Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

"China is willing to extend the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor to Afghanistan," he had said during a meeting with President Ashraf Ghani's Special Envoy for Pakistan, Umer Daudzai.
