Coronavirus Update: Unchanged infection rate in Sindh

Sindh’s overall COVID-19 infection rate remained constant for the seventh day at 14% on August 20 when it reported 321 new infections, with seven related fatalities, during the last 24 hours.

Sindh had the overall coronavirus infection rate as 14.39% on August 14, which, with fractional decreases, came down to 13.75% on August 20 against Pakistan’s overall infection rate of 12%. 

The overall rate of infection for the province was 15% on August 13 and 16% on August 5. 

The Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, in his statement on COVID-19 on August 20, shared that 11,167 samples were tested during the last 24 hours, out of which 321 were found to be positive, taking the total number of COVID infected people to 127,381 for Sindh, while the overall tally of related death reached to 2,350. 

According to his statement, there were still 4,274 COVID-19 active patients in the province, out of which 3,886 were isolated at homes, while another seven at the designated isolation centres.

As many as 381 patients, including 230 in critical conditions, were admitted at private and government hospitals, he added.

Karachi’s six districts collectively reported 142 (44%) out of the total daily infections on August 20, followed by Hyderabad (29), Dadu (13), Kashmore (12), Badin (9), Khairpur (9), Ghotki (7), Sujawal (7), Sukkur (6), Thatta (6), Sanghar (5), Tando Allahyar (5), Tando Mohammad Khan (5), Umerkot (5), Jamshoro (4), Larkana (3), Mirpurkhas (2) and Jacobabad (2).
