Coronavirus Update: Sindh continues to top national charts

Sindh continued to be the largest contributor to overall daily national COVID-19 infections and related deaths in recent days, as the authorities in the government here on August 14 confirmed 343 more infections, against a national number of 747, and six deaths, against the country’s daily death tally of nine, during the last 24 hours across the province.

Sindh’s overall tally of infections reached to 125,632 (14%), while deaths figure increased to 2,313 (CFR: 1.9). Sindh was followed by Punjab (210 new cases and one death), Balochistan (82 and no death) and KPK (70 and two deaths) on August 14. 

Pakistan had reported 626 new cases of COVID-19 on August 13, taking the total number of cases registered across the country to 287,300, with 6,153 deaths (CFR: 2.14%). 

According to a report from an international health agency in the country, out of the total 15,932 currently active cases, 1,333 cases were hospitalized, out of which 774 (58.06%) were in critical condition. In Sindh, 91% of the active COVID patients were told receiving treatment at homes on August 14. 

The Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, in his related routine statement on August 14 shared that there were 4,294 patients of COVID-19 in the province, out of which 3,896 were at homes, eight at isolation centres and 390 in hospitals. Of the 210 critically ill patients, 42 were put on ventilators, he added. 

The number of new infections recorded at Karachi was 182 (53% of the total cases) for the last 24 hours ending on August 14 afternoon, followed by Hyderabad (19), Kambar Shadadkot (14), Shikarpur (12), Umerkot (11), Jamshoro (10), Tando Allahyar (9), Thatta (9), Dadu (9), Shaheed Benazirabad (7), Ghotki (5), Sanghar (5), Sujawal (5), Badin (4), Matiari (3), Naushero Feroze (3), Larkana (2), Mirpurkhas (2), Sukkur (2) and Tando Mohammad Khan (1). 

Sindh, as of August 14, tested a total 872,712 samples out of which 125,632 were found positive for COVID, while 119,025 recovered from the diseases. On August 13 it had tested 9383 people.
