The construction work on Gulshan-e-Jinnah Park, famously known as Polo
Ground, and its Eidgah, having a project cost of Rs 170 million, are in full swing and they are expected to be completed during the next one week.
The Administrator of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi, has issued the directives to expedite the pace of construction works in order to get the facilities ready before Eid-ul-Fitr, to be celebrated most probably on August 9.
“The citizens could be given a big and beautiful park as a gift on the occasion of Eid,” he observed during his visit to the project site on July 31. He was accompanied by Director General Parks, Project Director, Chief Engineer and other officers.
The KMC Administrator inspected construction works of park and said that the biggest gathering of Eid prayers will be held in Gulshan-e-Jinnah this year, to be attended by
a large number of dignitaries and foreign diplomats.
“The place has significant status as a central picnic point therefore quality standard in construction works of Gulshan-e-Jinnah should be considered and every possible efforts should be made to develop the park not only as just a park but also as an important centre as identity of Karachi and cultural point of view,” he added.
He remarked that the park consisting of 20 acre being reconstructed in which facilities being provided which include improvement of Eidgah for Eid gathering, play area for children, modern musical fountain, jogging track, lighting tower.
Historical importance of this place was also considered in its design. A central door having historical importance for entering in park was also being constructed which would be compatible with architecture of Pakistan and neighboring country China and external walls were also being constructed with the same design.
The other facilities being provided in park include fascinating stone canopies, stone benches, corridors, wide lawns, lighting tower, car parking, jogging track, green fields with flowers and play area for children whereas place of historical Eidgah in this park has also been improved and widened.
