Consumer rights concept to be promoted in Karachi

The Commissioner of Karachi, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui, has expressed the eagerness to promote the concept of consumer rights in the metropolis. He renewed the commitment of the city administration to promote it in letter and spirit. 

He chaired a meeting on July 31 to review the ongoing operation against profiteers and other unscrupulous elements engaged in deceiving public under one pretext other. 

"Realizing the seriousness of the government, people too are now witnessed demanding official price list and its absolute compliance by the shopkeepers," the Commissioner felt. 

Shoaib Siddiqui maintained that good governance and implementation of rules and regulation was the responsibility of the administration under the supervision of the government. 

He was highly appreciative of the role of the media for its support to the public cause and said the campaign against profiteers will not be kept limited to Ramazan but shall be turned into a round the year activity. 

He shared with the media the details of action taken against retailers found indulged in fleecing masses by disbursing fake official price lists for different edible and consumer items in the city. 

He disclosed that the administration has taken into stock the violation of approved price list by the members of Karachi Poultry Farmers and chicken sellers and they have been issued warning to desist from the practice as otherwise action would be taken. 

"We are not against traders doing their business in accordance to law and causing no loss to the citizens under any pretext," the Commissioner clarified. 

He revealed that a strategy is also being developed to ensure that fruit and vegetable vendors, at irregular markets under make shift arrangements and road sides, are brought under the net and complaints made by people against them are addressed.
