Quite a few educational institutions of Karachi, including leading universities, have planned to online classes in an effort to save academic loss the students could suffer due to long vacations in the wake of Coronavirus pandemic.
According to a notification issued by the Sindh government recently, all the educational institutions in the province will remain closed till June 1 while the federal government, following the meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) on March 13, has decided to close all educational institutions in the country for three weeks.
A few universities of Sindh had announced to start online classes for its students from March 16 but they had to revisit the decision in view of the federal government’s notification of March 13.
It was learnt that the management of the Iqra University, through a letter had asked the students to cooperate and support the move taken in an extraordinary situation while the NED University was contemplating similar move from the same date.
It would have been the first such experience in Pakistan when reputed universities were to be conducting its regular classes online at such a large scale.
“The management, faculty and staff of Iqra University is fully aware of the gravity of the situation and we have been constantly thinking of active ways to ward off the disease and at the same time continue with the teaching-learning process. In order to refrain from any more academic loss to the students, we are commencing online classes for all the students of IU from March 16,” the management of Iqra University wrote to its students.
“As this will be our first initiative to shift to the online mode at a mass level, we may face a few technical challenges. We request you to bear with us in the wake of any technical and operational difficulty. With your cooperation and support, we are sure that we will not only overcome this extraordinary situation but also smoothly run the academic process,” it added.
