The Board of Governors of the Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET), Karachi, in its meeting on October 21, under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Syed Jawaid Hassan Rizvi reviewed and approved various proposals and suggestions aimed at further betterment of the institution.
The Board approved the recommendations of the inspection team of Higher Education Commission (HEC) regarding establishment of a faculty of postgraduate studies and research.
It also gave go ahead for the implementation of a unified pay scale for all faculties.
The Board discussed options to recruit highly qualified faculty while the members emphasized upon putting in more efforts for research activities by the faculty members and to develop research culture in the university.
The development of postgraduate programme on modern lines was also reviewed and a proposal was put forward to provide scholarships for students of foreign countries, particularly the advance ones, doing Ph.D.
The Board reviewed the 5th Inspection report of the Charter Inspection & Evaluation Committee (CIEC) and expressed deep satisfaction over the achievements of the SSUET.
It pledged to continue efforts for development in light of the CIEC recommendations in future.
It discussed to offer competitive and attractive salaries to bring in highly qualified and experienced faculty members and provide incentives to faculty members for their research work.
The meeting was attended, among others, by Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, Prof Dr M D Shami, Justice (R) Fazl-e-Ghani, Engr Muhammad Adil Usman, Cdre (R) Salim A Siddiqui and Registrar Shah Mahmood Hussain Syed.
