Dr Nasreen Shagufta’s interview highlights PLISJ latest issue

The third quarterly (July-September) issue of 2015 of the Pakistan Library and Information Science Journal (PLISJ), living upto its high reputation, has seen the light of the day at the right time once more.

It’s quite remarkable that the journal, published by the Karachi-based non-governmental body Library Promotion Bureau (LPB) for the past 47 years, has succeeded in maintaining its unique standards despite resource constraints.

Prof Dr Ghani-ul-Akram Sabzwari has led by example throughout these years with her able student, Prof Dr Nasim Fatima, having kept the flame alive even in the most trying of conditions which has enabled the PLISJ to come out every quarter for nearly half a century now.

The highlight of the latest issue of the PLISJ is the personality interview of Dr Nasreen Shagufta, a seasoned library professional, having come to the limelight with the publication of her maiden book ‘Darakhshan Sitaray’ in 2013.

Interestingly the book profiled the 30 top women library scientists of the country but her own name was missing from the list as she was the author of the book.

It’s in the fitness of things that her interview, spread over no less than nine pages, has been published in the PLISJ and Dr Amna Khatoon needs to be credited for having done it very professionally.

The background colour of the PLISJ title has been kept as green which makes a lot of sense, considering it covered the month of Pakistan’s Independence.

As usual there is a lot of reading stuff between the covers, both in English as well as Urdu. There are contributions from the luminaries of the profession like Prof Dr Nasim Fatima, Prof Dr Kanwal Ameen and Prof Dr Rubina Bhatti.

It’s indeed a great blessing to have the PLISJ every quarter. The library schools all over the country should play a proactive role in spreading the PLISJ as it has resource material of the highest class for library and information scientists.
