Bazm-e-Akram honours Dr Nasreen Shagufta befittingly

The Bazm-e-Akram, on the way to becoming a proactive literary forum of the library professionals, honoured their Vice President, Dr Nasreen Shagufta, in befitting manner in a luncheon reception held at the Liaquat Memorial Library, Karachi, on November 2. 

Glowing tributes were also paid to the legendary Prof Dr Ghani-ul-Akram Sabzwari, Founder President, Library Promotion Bureau (LPB), Karachi, and Founder Chief Editor, Pakistan Library and Information Science Journal (PLISJ), in whose name the forum was established in 1976 with Adil Usmani being the Founder President. 

The reception was organized to bid farewell to Dr Nasreen Shagufta, who will be proceeding to a three-month tour of the United States of America (USA), on November 14. She was showered with praise for writing her maiden book ‘Darakhshan Sitaray’ which has already gone to press and is expected to be published later this month. 

Prof Dr Nasim Fatima, a former Chairperson of the Department of Library and Information Science at the University of Karachi, who is also editor of Bazm-e-Akram’s flagship publication ‘Adab-o-Kutub Khana’ besides being the driving force behind the forum, wished Dr Nasreen Shagufta the very best of luck on the tour and announced that the launching ceremony of ‘Darakhshan Sitaray’ which is an account of 30 women library scientists of the country, will be held upon her return from USA in February 2014.

Abdul Samad Ansari, President of the Bazm-e-Akram and one of the leading library scientists of the country, appreciated the skills and the energy displayed by Dr Nasreen Shagufta, one of the editors of the PLISJ. 

Iqbal-ur-Rahman Farooqui, Secretary General of the Bazm-e-Akram, expressed similar thoughts while Dr Amna Khatoon, Azra Qureshi, Ateeb Ahmed and Mian Saeed, the other office-bearers of the Bazm, were equally appreciative of Dr Nasreen Shagufta’s accomplishment of writing her maiden book.
